The bouncers are supposedly easier on gays, but what this means in practice is those gays that look quite effeminate are treated softer. Brown people come from persecution of their sexuality by their families and their countries hence are naturally discreet and often prefer to be quite masculine and come to places like Berghain to experience liberation – but these doormen cannot see through this and judge their colour of skin, lack of feminine expressiveness as dangerous. Gays are a spectrum and all shades should have equal opportunity. If liberation got even one shade is blocked then there is no liberation at all and no different to the kind of hierarchical racism that Berlin has a murky past of which I hope they rid.
